It has been a very busy and productive last 30 days for Timarron
golf course maintenance. The final push is being made to prepare the
course for the upcoming member guest tournaments. The golf course is
greening up nicely and has come a long way in the past month, despite
uncooperative weather. Remember, bermudagrass loves hot and sunny; not the
chilly and rainy weather pattern we have been stuck in. A consistent
couple weeks of sunny and warm weather would do wonders.
Winter Storm Turfgrass
Recovery
Despite the weather, we
have seen a lot of recovery in our turf areas damaged from the February winter
storm. Based on the recovery so far, most of the damaged turf will
recover just fine over the next 6 weeks. The bad turf areas around #18
green were sodded this week and other bad turf areas around the course are
being monitored and will be sodded if necessary.
Putting Greens
Putting greens continue to
progress and improve from the winter storm damage, but they still need time and
warmer weather to heal. A few sod plugs need to be installed to help expediate
there recovery. Cold, cloudy, and wet weather has the biggest effect on
your putting greens. These conditions promote disease and a
weakened plant. A couple weeks of full sun with no cloud cover would be
amazing.
Driving Range Tee
Leveling
In the coming weeks a KORO machine will be used to level both of
our driving range tees. This machine works by removing a half inch of
soil across the entire tee. Low areas will not be touched and any high
turf areas will be removed. This is an aggressive practice and it will
take 30 days for the turf to heal, but members will notice an improved driving
range experience.
Timarron golf course maintenance will continue to work hard to give our members the best course conditions possible and communicate with timely updates. Please remember to pick up broken tees, fix ball marks, and sand your divots.
