Covering greens is a huge undertaking, but is absolutely necessary to protect the turf. The industry standard is to cover greens any time the temperatures will be in the mid to low 20's. Bermudagrass greens have a low tolerance for long periods of cold weather, and will die if not protected.
The biggest challenge covering greens is the wind. Typically the northern front blows in and the wind is blowing 20-40 MPH. This wind condition makes it almost impossible to cover the greens. Covering of the greens needs to be prior to the wind arriving. The issue with this, is that the temperatures are usually warm and members want to play golf. Covering greens is a major inconvenience to our membership, but absolutely necessary to protect our turf.
