Tree maintenance is an important practice for all golf courses. At Timarron we have a tree company that works 3 straight weeks; usually in the Fall. Tree removal and trimming is a delicate subject with all memberships. Here are our mindsets...
1) Remove dead and hazardous trees.
2) Have a good balance of tree and turf health around the course. Green and Tee turfgrass health comes first.
3) Allow desirable species to thrive (Post Oaks, Live Oaks, Pecans, American Elms).
4) Remove non-desirable species (Cedar Elm, Hackberry, Cedar, Mesquite); especially when they are competing with a desirable species.
Desirable trees grow slow and live a long time. Non-desirable trees are fast growing, weak, and will out compete desirable trees because of there quick growth rate. In situations where there is a mix of both these species growing close together, it is best to remove the non-desirable trees. Long term that positions Timarron to have healthy tree population.
