Golf Course Update
Our first aerification was completed this past
Wednesday. This cultural practice has
many valuable benefits in helping to maintain high quality turfgrass, which is
the best playing surface for our Members.
It will create a growing environment for the grass to recover from
winter damage and prepare itself for the hot summer.
Putting Greens
Putting greens were cored with a medium sized tine and the
holes were backfilled with sand.
Granular fertilizer was applied to help with recovery. Rolling, topdressing, and verticutting will
all be used to smooth the greens out.
Expect recovery to take approximately 3 weeks. Warm, sunny weather will allow for a faster
recovery. Cold, cloudy, rainy weather
will slow recovery.
Fairways and Tees
All these areas were solid tined, meaning no soil cores were
pulled. Our plan was to pull a core on
these areas, but because of the rain, this was not possible. Because no core was pulled, these areas will
heal faster. Fertilizer was applied to
these areas to help expediate recovery.
#6 Fairway
A different type of aerification was done on #6
fairway. We did a 6-inch-deep slice on
this fairway. This was a trial to see
how it performs vs. the standard aerification.
Following the deep slice, we used a pull behind rake to stand up the
grass and remove some grain. We will
continue to monitor and evaluate how this variation helps the turf.
Rough Slicing
In the weeks to come you will notice golf course maintenance
slicing roughs. It’s a simple practice that
will help the roughs recover from golf cart traffic. The focus will be given to the high traffic
cart “enter” and “exit” points closest to the cart paths.
New Golf Carts
Our new fleet of golf carts are scheduled to arrive on May
17th. We appreciate
everyone’s understanding as we are limping down the home stretch with our old
fleet. Despite having a new fleet soon
to arrive, we have replaced over 100 batteries in the current golf cart fleet
in the past month. We still have some
battery issues and apologize in advance if you happen to have a cart that
doesn’t make it the full 18. Busy days
for the next couple of weeks will be a challenge with our current fleet. Just know that those issues will go away once
the new fleet arrives.
Vandalism on the Golf Course
Thursday night, we had someone steal golf carts and cause
damage to the golf course and significant damage to the carts. Should you have any information regarding this
event, please contact us immediately. We
ask that you contact the Golf Shop during operating hours if you see any
suspicious activity or trespassers on the golf course and contact the Southlake
Police Department if the Golf Shop is closed.
We will continue
to work hard to give our Members the best course conditions possible and
communicate with timely updates. We ask
that you do your part as well and pick up broken tees, fix ball marks, and sand
your divots. Thank you for your
continued support.
