The photo above is a great illustration of how Timarron looks when there is a lack of rain. Tops of the mounds are dry/brown and the low areas are green/moist. This can been seen across the entire golf course. These mounds must be watered to keep the turf alive and in doing so the low areas will remain wet. A typically irrigation head will spray a distance of 60 feet. In the photo above there is only 1 irrigation head to cover the entire area. We make daily adjustments to our irrigation system to try and minimize wet areas, but ultimately rain is the answer. Long term ideas that have been implemented at Timarron to minimize wet/dry turf-
- Install drain tile to help move water away from chronic wet areas.
- Wetting agents
- Aerification and venting program
- Use of soil amendments to loosen the soil
